UAE launches AI-powered drone challenge

The global technology and defense group «Edge», in cooperation with the Ministry of Defense of the United Arab Emirates, has announced the launch of the «Drone Challenge». The challenge aims to discover and accelerate the development of national talent in the field of AI-powered solutions for unmanned aerial vehicles.

The challenge will take place as part of the «IDEX 2026» exhibition, scheduled to be held in Abu Dhabi from January 20 to 22, 2026. It will provide an opportunity for UAE citizens aged 18 and above to compete in teams of two to three people by completing a series of programming tasks that demonstrate the highest levels of precision and innovation.

This challenge aims to hone the skills of the next generation of Emirati programmers by providing a practical platform for developing secure and flexible AI-based software solutions. It also offers participants the chance to engage with a specialized audience in drone technology and systems, as well as cybersecurity.

This initiative embodies the shared vision between Edge Group and the Ministry of Defense to invest in the national human capital by empowering gifted Emirati talents with advanced digital and programming capabilities that contribute to enhancing national security and supporting the UAE's knowledge-based economy.

Those interested in participating can submit their applications via the dedicated challenge website https://moddronechallenge.edgegroup.ae before the final registration deadline on November 30, 2025. The website contains all details regarding participation criteria and submission mechanisms.

This challenge is the latest development within the ongoing strategic partnership between Edge Group and the UAE Ministry of Defense. It aligns with the «Fifty Principles» launched by the UAE government, which emphasize that investing in human capital and developing high-level national capabilities are the primary drivers of future growth.
